HD 110067 d
Astrophysical Synthesis & Habitability Characterization
HD 110067 d is a confirmed sub-neptune exoplanet orbiting the star HD 110067, located approximately 104.9 light-years (32.16 parsecs) from the Solar System. First announced in 2023 by Multiple Observatories using the Transit detection technique (producing an estimated primary transit depth of 0.1101% across the stellar disk), this world measures 2.852 Earth radii and has a measured mass of 8.52 Earth masses. Combining its mass and radius yields a mean bulk density of 2.03 g/cm³ (an intermediate density indicative of a deep water-ice mantle or dense volatile envelope), a surface gravity of 1.05 g⊕ (10.3 m/s²), and an escape velocity of 19.3 km/s.
In its orbital architecture around HD 110067, HD 110067 d completes one full revolution every 20.52 Earth days at a semi-major axis of 0.1362 AU (orbiting interior to Mercury's 0.387 AU benchmark in the Solar System). Its mean orbital velocity is approximately 72.2 km/s (compared to Earth's 29.8 km/s).
⚠️ Thermal Regime (Irradiated / Hot Zone): At an equilibrium temperature of 602 K (+329°C / +624°F) and receiving 23.41 S⊕ (~31,861 W/m²), HD 110067 d orbits interior to the runaway greenhouse boundary where surface liquid water cannot persist.
The host star HD 110067 is classified as an orange K-type star of spectral type K0.0 V with an effective photospheric temperature of 5,266 K, a radius of 0.788 R☉, a mass of 0.798 M☉, an estimated bolometric luminosity of 0.428 L☉. Stellar evolution modeling indicates an estimated stellar age of 8.1 Gyr and a metallicity of [Fe/H] = -0.2 dex (metal-poor relative to the Sun). From Earth, HD 110067 shines at apparent V-band magnitude 8.419 (accessible to binoculars and small amateur telescopes) in the Northern celestial hemisphere. The HD 110067 system is a multi-planet architecture hosting 6 confirmed worlds, with HD 110067 d sharing its stellar neighborhood alongside HD 110067 b, HD 110067 c, HD 110067 e, HD 110067 f, HD 110067 g.
Methodology: Computed using the Schulze-Makuch et al. (2011) weighted metric comparing physical interior (radius, estimated density) and surface thermal regime (escape velocity, equilibrium temperature).
