Astrophysical Synthesis & Habitability Characterization

WISPIT 2 c is a confirmed gas giant exoplanet orbiting the star WISPIT 2, located approximately 440 light-years (134.91 parsecs) from the Solar System. First announced in 2026 by Multiple Observatories using the Imaging detection technique (resolved directly via high-contrast coronagraphic or interferometric imaging), this world measures 17.934 Earth radii (1.6 Jupiter radii) and has a measured mass of 3178.284 Earth masses (10 Jupiter masses). Combining its mass and radius yields a mean bulk density of 3.04 g/cm³ (an intermediate density indicative of a deep water-ice mantle or dense volatile envelope), a surface gravity of 9.88 g⊕ (96.89 m/s²), and an escape velocity of 148.9 km/s.

⚠️ Thermal Regime (Irradiated / Hot Zone): At an equilibrium temperature of 2050 K (+1777°C / +3231°F) and receiving 0.00 S⊕ (~5 W/m²), WISPIT 2 c orbits interior to the runaway greenhouse boundary where surface liquid water cannot persist.

The host star WISPIT 2 is classified as a stellar host with an effective photospheric temperature of 4,530 K, a radius of 1.3 R☉, a mass of 1.08 M☉, an estimated bolometric luminosity of 0.639 L☉. Stellar evolution modeling indicates an estimated stellar age of 0.005 Gyr. From Earth, WISPIT 2 shines at apparent V-band magnitude 11.598 (faint and requiring research-grade or CCD telescopic photometry) in the Southern celestial hemisphere. The WISPIT 2 system is a multi-planet architecture hosting 2 confirmed worlds, with WISPIT 2 c sharing its stellar neighborhood alongside WISPIT 2 b.

Methodology: Computed using the Schulze-Makuch et al. (2011) weighted metric comparing physical interior (radius, estimated density) and surface thermal regime (escape velocity, equilibrium temperature).
