Astrophysical Synthesis & Habitability Characterization

WISPIT 1 b is a confirmed gas giant exoplanet orbiting the star WISPIT 1, located approximately 750.2 light-years (230.01 parsecs) from the Solar System. First announced in 2025 by Paranal Observatory using the Imaging detection technique (resolved directly via high-contrast coronagraphic or interferometric imaging), this world measures 12.4 Earth radii (1.11 Jupiter radii) and has a measured mass of 3305.415 Earth masses (10.4 Jupiter masses). Combining its mass and radius yields a mean bulk density of 9.56 g/cm³ (an iron-enriched, high-compression rocky core), a surface gravity of 21.5 g⊕ (210.84 m/s²), and an escape velocity of 182.6 km/s.

❄️ Thermal Regime (Cryogenic Zone): With an equilibrium temperature of 13 K (-260°C / -436°F), surface water and volatile species on WISPIT 1 b would remain locked in cryogenic ice phases unless warmed by subsurface tidal or radiogenic heating.

The host star WISPIT 1 is classified as an orange K-type star of spectral type K4 V with an effective photospheric temperature of 4,670 K, a radius of 1.1161 R☉, a mass of 0.72 M☉, an estimated bolometric luminosity of 0.532 L☉. Stellar evolution modeling indicates an estimated stellar age of 0.016 Gyr. From Earth, WISPIT 1 shines at apparent V-band magnitude 13.182 (faint and requiring research-grade or CCD telescopic photometry) in the Southern celestial hemisphere. The WISPIT 1 system is a multi-planet architecture hosting 2 confirmed worlds, with WISPIT 1 b sharing its stellar neighborhood alongside WISPIT 1 c.
