Astrophysical Synthesis & Habitability Characterization

TOI-5289 b is a confirmed sub-neptune exoplanet orbiting the star TOI-5289, located approximately 843 light-years (258.46 parsecs) from the Solar System. First announced in 2026 by Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) using the Transit detection technique (producing an estimated primary transit depth of 0.1821% across the stellar disk), this world measures 4.38 Earth radii (0.39 Jupiter radii) and has a measured mass of 17.6 Earth masses. Combining its mass and radius yields a mean bulk density of 1.15 g/cm³ (a low bulk density dominated by an extended hydrogen-helium gaseous envelope), a surface gravity of 0.92 g⊕ (9.02 m/s²), and an escape velocity of 22.4 km/s.

In its orbital architecture around TOI-5289, TOI-5289 b completes one full revolution every 3.441 Earth days. The orbit is modeled as circular (e = 0.00), maintaining a constant stellar distance throughout its year.

⚠️ Thermal Regime (Irradiated / Hot Zone): At an equilibrium temperature of 1197 K (+924°C / +1695°F) and receiving 341.30 S⊕ (~464,513 W/m²), TOI-5289 b orbits interior to the runaway greenhouse boundary where surface liquid water cannot persist.

The host star TOI-5289 is classified as a stellar host with an effective photospheric temperature of 5,244 K, a radius of 0.9411 R☉, a mass of 0.896 M☉, an estimated bolometric luminosity of 0.601 L☉. From Earth, TOI-5289 shines at apparent V-band magnitude 12.581 (faint and requiring research-grade or CCD telescopic photometry) in the Southern celestial hemisphere.

Earth Similarity Index (ESI): 0.16 Earth Baseline = 1.00

Methodology: Computed using the Schulze-Makuch et al. (2011) weighted metric comparing physical interior (radius, estimated density) and surface thermal regime (escape velocity, equilibrium temperature).
