Astrophysical Synthesis & Habitability Characterization

OGLE-2017-BLG-1522L b is a confirmed gas giant exoplanet orbiting the star OGLE-2017-BLG-1522L, located approximately 24429.1 light-years (7490 parsecs) from the Solar System. First announced in 2018 by OGLE using the Microlensing detection technique (detected via relativistic gravitational lensing of a background source star), this world measures 14 Earth radii (1.25 Jupiter radii) and has a measured mass of 240 Earth masses (0.76 Jupiter masses). Combining its mass and radius yields a mean bulk density of 0.48 g/cm³ (a low bulk density dominated by an extended hydrogen-helium gaseous envelope), a surface gravity of 1.22 g⊕ (11.96 m/s²), and an escape velocity of 46.3 km/s.

☁️ Atmospheric Regime (Volatile / Gas Envelope): With a radius of 14.000 R⊕, OGLE-2017-BLG-1522L b exceeds the empirical ~1.8–2.2 R⊕ Fulton radius valley threshold, indicating a substantial hydrogen-helium or supercritical volatile envelope without a conventional solid terrestrial surface.

The host star OGLE-2017-BLG-1522L is classified as a stellar host with a mass of 0.045 M☉.

Earth Similarity Index (ESI): 0.29 Earth Baseline = 1.00
0.00 Dissimilar 0.50 Mars Scale 0.70 Analog Regime 1.00 Earth

Methodology: Computed using the Schulze-Makuch et al. (2011) weighted metric comparing physical interior (radius, estimated density) and surface thermal regime (escape velocity, equilibrium temperature).
