Astrophysical Synthesis & Habitability Characterization

OGLE-2006-BLG-109L b is a confirmed gas giant exoplanet orbiting the star OGLE-2006-BLG-109L, located approximately 4925 light-years (1510 parsecs) from the Solar System. First announced in 2008 by OGLE using the Microlensing detection technique (detected via relativistic gravitational lensing of a background source star), this world measures 14 Earth radii (1.25 Jupiter radii) and has a measured mass of 231 Earth masses (0.73 Jupiter masses). Combining its mass and radius yields a mean bulk density of 0.46 g/cm³ (a low bulk density dominated by an extended hydrogen-helium gaseous envelope), a surface gravity of 1.18 g⊕ (11.57 m/s²), and an escape velocity of 45.4 km/s.

In its orbital architecture around OGLE-2006-BLG-109L, OGLE-2006-BLG-109L b completes one full revolution every 1788.5 Earth days (4.9Julian years) at a semi-major axis of 2.3 AU (corresponding to the middle-system regime between Mars at 1.52 AU and Jupiter at 5.20 AU). Its mean orbital velocity is approximately 14 km/s (compared to Earth's 29.8 km/s).

❄️ Thermal Regime (Cryogenic Zone): With an equilibrium temperature of 82 K (-191°C / -312°F), surface water and volatile species on OGLE-2006-BLG-109L b would remain locked in cryogenic ice phases unless warmed by subsurface tidal or radiogenic heating.

The host star OGLE-2006-BLG-109L is classified as a stellar host with a mass of 0.51 M☉. The OGLE-2006-BLG-109L system is a multi-planet architecture hosting 2 confirmed worlds, with OGLE-2006-BLG-109L b sharing its stellar neighborhood alongside OGLE-2006-BLG-109L c.
