Astrophysical Synthesis & Habitability Characterization

HD 235088 b is a confirmed super-earth exoplanet orbiting the star HD 235088, located approximately 134.3 light-years (41.17 parsecs) from the Solar System. First announced in 2023 by Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) using the Transit detection technique (producing an estimated primary transit depth of 0.0554% across the stellar disk), this world measures 1.982 Earth radii and has a measured mass of 4.15 Earth masses. Combining its mass and radius yields a mean bulk density of 2.94 g/cm³ (an intermediate density indicative of a deep water-ice mantle or dense volatile envelope), a surface gravity of 1.06 g⊕ (10.4 m/s²), and an escape velocity of 16.2 km/s.

In its orbital architecture around HD 235088, HD 235088 b completes one full revolution every 7.434 Earth days at a semi-major axis of 0.0706 AU (orbiting interior to Mercury's 0.387 AU benchmark in the Solar System). Its mean orbital velocity is approximately 103.3 km/s (compared to Earth's 29.8 km/s). The orbit is modeled as circular (e = 0.00), maintaining a constant stellar distance throughout its year.

⚠️ Thermal Regime (Irradiated / Hot Zone): At an equilibrium temperature of 805 K (+532°C / +990°F) and receiving 70.00 S⊕ (~95,270 W/m²), HD 235088 b orbits interior to the runaway greenhouse boundary where surface liquid water cannot persist.

The host star HD 235088 is classified as an orange K-type star of spectral type K V with an effective photospheric temperature of 5,075 K, a radius of 0.772 R☉, a mass of 0.849 M☉, an estimated bolometric luminosity of 0.355 L☉. Stellar evolution modeling indicates an estimated stellar age of 0.7 Gyr and a metallicity of [Fe/H] = -0.02 dex (near-solar heavy-element abundance). From Earth, HD 235088 shines at apparent V-band magnitude 9.19 (accessible to binoculars and small amateur telescopes) in the Northern celestial hemisphere.

Methodology: Computed using the Schulze-Makuch et al. (2011) weighted metric comparing physical interior (radius, estimated density) and surface thermal regime (escape velocity, equilibrium temperature).
