HD 113337 b
Astrophysical Synthesis & Habitability Characterization
HD 113337 b is a confirmed gas giant exoplanet orbiting the star HD 113337, located approximately 118 light-years (36.18 parsecs) from the Solar System. First announced in 2013 by Haute-Provence Observatory using the Radial Velocity detection technique (measuring periodic Doppler reflex motion in the host star's spectrum), this world measures 13.1 Earth radii (1.17 Jupiter radii) and has a measured mass of 1035.803 Earth masses (3.26 Jupiter masses). Combining its mass and radius yields a mean bulk density of 2.54 g/cm³ (an intermediate density indicative of a deep water-ice mantle or dense volatile envelope), a surface gravity of 6.04 g⊕ (59.23 m/s²), and an escape velocity of 99.5 km/s.
In its orbital architecture around HD 113337, HD 113337 b completes one full revolution every 317.586 Earth days at a semi-major axis of 1.022 AU (comparable to the inner terrestrial zone between Venus, Earth at 1.00 AU, and Mars at 1.52 AU). Its mean orbital velocity is approximately 35 km/s (compared to Earth's 29.8 km/s). The planet follows a highly eccentric trajectory (e = 0.28, swinging from 0.7358 AU at periapsis out to 1.3082 AU at apoapsis), pointing to past dynamical scattering or secular gravitational perturbations.
⚠️ Thermal Regime (Irradiated / Hot Zone): At an equilibrium temperature of 396 K (+123°C / +253°F) and receiving 4.11 S⊕ (~5,590 W/m²), HD 113337 b orbits interior to the runaway greenhouse boundary where surface liquid water cannot persist.
The host star HD 113337 is classified as a warm F-type star of spectral type F6 V with an effective photospheric temperature of 6,774 K, a radius of 1.5 R☉, a mass of 1.41 M☉, an estimated bolometric luminosity of 4.251 L☉. Stellar evolution modeling indicates an estimated stellar age of 0.15 Gyr and a metallicity of [Fe/H] = 0.07 dex (metal-rich relative to the Sun). From Earth, HD 113337 shines at apparent V-band magnitude 6.021 (visible to the unaided human eye under dark skies) in the Northern celestial hemisphere. The HD 113337 system is a multi-planet architecture hosting 2 confirmed worlds, with HD 113337 b sharing its stellar neighborhood alongside HD 113337 c.
Methodology: Computed using the Schulze-Makuch et al. (2011) weighted metric comparing physical interior (radius, estimated density) and surface thermal regime (escape velocity, equilibrium temperature).
